New Yorkers can now sip on augmented reality cocktails while experiencing an immersive exhibition that explores NYC’s past and potential future.
Commissioned by ARTECHOUSE and created by pioneering new media artist Refik Anadol, Machine Hallucination: NYC is an ode to New York – one of the world’s greatest cities and architectural marvels.
Located inside Chelsea Market’s boiler room, the exhibition uses artificial intelligence to deploy machine-learning algorithms on a massive dataset – more than 100 million publicly available photographs of NY’s iconic architecture and urban landscapes – creating a cinematic data universe of the city’s memories and AI re-imaginings.
Guests can order drinks inspired by elements of the groundbreaking exhibition and scan their cocktail on the ARTECHOUSE app to bring it to life with augmented reality.
This unprecedented technology will allow users to explore a vision of New York that exists only in the mind of a machine.
Mirroring the exhibit’s process of using machine intelligence to uncover the ever-changing shape of the city, XR Bar mixologists created a unique menu utilizing data collected from top restaurants in each of NYC’s neighborhoods.
Each cocktail is named after a neighborhood and includes ingredients from the most popular dishes ordered at top restaurants in the area.
From the “Meatpacking District” which features ingredients such as toasted rice and blackberry; to the “Chelsea” featuring Allspice, honey, and leeks; to a limited-edition holiday cocktail released this week called the “Crème Brûlée Old Fashioned,” featuring homemade creme brûlée and locally sourced rye – the XR Bar’s delicious variety of cocktails help complete an exciting multi-sensory art experience.
