Dog parks are the perfect way to let your furry friend get in some exercise, interact with other pets and spend quality time with their owner. Here, we’ve gathered a list of the best dog parks in NYC so you can get out and enjoy some sunshine with your pup.

Located in Madison Square Park, this dog park will have your furball’s tail wagging. Named after James “Jemmy” Madison, it is open year-round with plenty of special amenities, including a water feature during the late spring, summer and early fall and designated areas for both large and small dogs. The park is lined with umbrellas and plenty of seating for the owners, along with double entry and exit gates to ensure your pet's safety.

Enjoy some fresh air while Fido makes new friends at Stuyvesant Square Park. Here, your dog can run off the leash in the designated zone and get in their social time without restraints. This beautifully shaded center with endless greenery lets owners cool down on those blazing summer days. Also, there are waste bag dispensers and cleaning equipment scattered throughout the park. Be sure to bring extra water!

Pier 84 is just one of the five dog parks Hudson River Park has to offer. Take in the view in this Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood park along the Hudson River and explore the large open space where your dog can play with other pups. Some features include a spray shower, water fountain and pet bowl available from mid-April to early November. There are also special stone pieces that dogs can climb on and a double-gated safety vestibule for extra security.

This small but mighty dog park is packed with friendly canines and locals who love to interact. Named after PAPD K-9 Sirius, a yellow labrador retriever who specialized in detecting bombs and lost his life during the 9/11 attacks, this park is very special to visitors. With plenty of amenities like uneven surfaces to test your pet's agility and a water pool, it is the most popular of the three open in Battery Park City. The park is cleaned and checked every day and provides the best experience for every dog to honor Sirius.

Tompkins Square Dog Run is New York’s first and largest dog run located in Tompkins Square Park. Beginning in 1990, residents were persistent in establishing a safe area where they could take their dogs in a friendly neighborhood. After a renovation in 2008, the park includes underground drainage, three swimming pools and areas to wash off your dog before returning home. The park is completely run by the community and built a loving and protective space through money and organized volunteers. All dogs of any shape and size are welcome!

Escape the hustle and bustle of the city in this triangular space surrounded by trees in Brooklyn Heights. This park provides a 1.4-acre playground that is fully fenced and securely gated, so no owners have to worry about their best friend escaping. With designated large and small pet playing areas and drinking fountains during the warmer months, your dog will be begging you for endless playtime. Owners can either sit back and relax at one of the conveniently located picnic tables or chat it up with a fellow dog lover while their pet enjoys the space.
