Halletts Point Play in Astoria welcomed a drive-in theater Saturday, Sept. 26 but with a twist. This fall, the waterfront stretch is hosting Broadway at the Drive-in, a hybrid of musical screenings intertwined with live performances.

Since the pandemic shut-down, multiple locations have transformed their venues to accommodate screenings of film favorites, providing New Yorkers with a much-needed distraction. Broadway at the Drive-in, however, brings back the city's sorely missed theater scene in a safe way.

Now through Oct. 11, viewers can see Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera complemented with live performances by stage veterans and an 11-piece orchestra.

Showtune lovers can pull up to view the programs from their cars or reserve picnic tables in advance, which seat up to four people. Concessions will be sold on site. To ensure the safety of viewers, temperature checks will be administered upon arrival, and social distancing is mandatory. To attend, simply purchase tickets, grab some snacks and enjoy the music of the night.
