Chances are you’ve either seen or heard the buzz about Louis Vuitton’s stunning hard-sided trunk stack façade, which is covering the brand’s 5th Avenue flagship while it undergoes a substantial renovation. The iconic fashion house is now taking the gorgeous display a step further by projecting a festive animation onto the façade through Christmas.
The 240-foot-tall animation stretches a full 16 stories, drawing eyes from across the surrounding blocks. The show runs for four minutes and is projected every 30 minutes from 5 p.m. through 10 p.m. nightly. The show commences with vibrant colors and movements flashing across the façade, reminiscent of the Damier pattern from the 1880s. From there, a rich sapphire blue has its moment before the house’s signature monogram flower design twinkles and animals are revealed hiding among the motifs. The animals then roam until a carousel is revealed, tying into Louis Vuitton’s worldwide campaign of holiday window displays that feature an enchanted carousel theme. The inspiration? Georges Vuitton’s display of trunks and travel items on a velvet-lined carousel during the 1900 Paris Universal Exhibition.
Between shows, the trunk stack façade pays homage to the Trianon Grey canvas, which dates back to the 19th Century and has been reimagined with the iconic monogram flower motif. The stunning façade is complete with iconic Louis Vuitton details, such as handles, signature locks and silver hardware rendered in chrome-plated, laser-cut steel. Complete with 840 rivets, each etched with “Louis Vuitton,” the display is truly a sight to behold.
Just across the street on 57th, the brand’s temporary flagship, which is also the Maison's largest U.S. store, maintains Louis Vuitton’s high standards of innovative design and attention to detail. Read more about Louis Vuitton’s temporary flagship here.
