The famous gin and tonic cocktail was first introduced by the army of the British East India Company in order to prevent malaria, a persistent disease prevailing in tropical climates. In the 1700s, Scottish doctor George Cleghorn examined how quinine could be used to halt the illness. The quinine was consumed in tonic water; however, its bitter taste was unpleasant. As a result, British officers in India in the early 19th century added a mixture of water, sugar, lime and gin in order to make the drink more palatable—thus, gin and tonic was born. Born in Germany’s Black Forest and made with 47 botanicals for an exceptional taste, Monkey 47 Gin offers a new way to enjoy the centuries-old drink by adapting it to the summer season.
