Gigi Hadid Rules The Runway At Proenza Schouler NYFW Show

By: Amy Rosner By: Amy Rosner | September 10, 2021 | Style & Beauty,

Proenza Schouler took over Little Island Wednesday night, and it was absolutely breathtaking.

p.jpgPerfectly timed at sunset, the Spring Summer 2022 looks were illuminated by the natural beauty of New York City.

We’re back, baby.

If fashion icons, DFV and Anna Wintour were there, you know it must have been good.

anna.jpgAnd let’s not forget about Em Rata who looked beyond flawless post-baby. It’s literally annoying.

em.jpgA celebration of newfound freedoms, coupled with an optimism for all that lies ahead, inform the heart of the Proenza Schouler Spring Summer 2022 collection.

In layman’s terms, the new collection is celebrating the resilience of our world as we continue to persevere through a global pandemic.

The human instinct of engaging with others, of exploring the world, of enriching one’s life with new experiences far and wide, is capitalized in each and every design.

8-0012.jpgA utilitarian wardrobe for the intelligent, adult, urban woman of today is filtered through the romantic lens of expedition and travel, rendered into a collection designed for the city streets.

Tailoring continues to ground the collection, but is made new when cut into shapely forms in vivid, plush jacquards. It’s a celebration of the old and the new, all in one.

9-0005.jpgBrilliant color is used as a psychological tonic to recent times and metaphorically turns the page to a new chapter. The collection is an homage to the current situation of the world, while simultaneously looking towards a more hopeful future.

Technical garments are made luxurious via cut and proportion yet retain their utilitarian function, counterbalancing more decorative notes. It’s the perfect balance of practical, yet artisanal.

10-0008.jpgEvery model grazed the runway with poise and grace, but Gigi Hadid undoubtedly stole the show.

gigi-0001.jpgBeaded and knitted fringe is a celebration of the handmade, while double-sided block prints on diaphanous silk crepes let the imagination wander far and wide.

A trio of brightly colored dresses in fine gauze jersey points to our personal freedom as individuals and our collective freedom as a nation.

Shoes recognize the reality of comfort being paramount today and remain close to the ground while rooted in codes of both proprieties and of the great outdoors. Once again, we see this harmonious blend of function and aesthetics.

Proenza_Schouler_SS22_Jonas_Gustavsson_7.jpgThe Dia Day Bag is explored in a myriad of fabrications, including hand-woven raffia and technical faux crocodile.

Handmade feather lei is a collaboration with Patti Hanna, a traditional lei maker on the island of Maui.

2-0054.jpgThis eye-catching accessory speaks to the beauty that is found when one is free to explore. The lei represents the transformational value of such important journeys, both physically and symbolically.

Proenza, you nailed it in every sense of the word.
