A table at the famed Rao’s is the ultimate status symbol for many New Yorkers. We can spend months (years!) waiting for access to the city’s best restaurants and chefs. What if we told you that one-of-a-kind culinary experiences and award-winning chefs are just a 90 minute flight away?
Bermuda is quickly becoming a culinary destination, with dining experiences unfound in New York. Take what you know about the island’s famed cocktails, and revel in their abundant access to the freshest seafood and bountiful produce. Pulling inspiration from British, African, Native American, Caribbean, and Portuguese spices and dishes, Bermudian cuisine offers a unique flavor all its own.
The culinary jewels of the island
Seafood rules menus across the island, but look to Aurora for the island’s famed wahoo fish; or grilled rockfish at Barracuda Grill, most likely caught off the island that morning. During lobster season--September to March--head to Tom Moore’s Tavern for a decadent treat.
The island’s temperate weather and rich soil make for ideal growing conditions for vibrant fruits and vegetables. The bright and tart loquats provide a zingy afterbite to the Loquat Gold Liquor Cake found at Bermuda Rum Cake Factory. Or the famed Bermuda Onion, which has a deep island heritage.
Dive into Bermuda’s British influence of tradition by taking high tea at the Bermuda Perfumery. Nibble on sweet confections accented with local preserves and Chantilly cream while you sip your tea in the elegant, luxe garden atmosphere.
Discover made-for-you dining experiences
From oceanside picnics to private chefs, Bermuda offers a variety of dining experiences to make your visit unlike any other. Look to Bermuda’s Eettafel, a boutique events company that will help curate a full-service luxe picnic experience. Sure to be the envy of your Instagram feed, Eettafel will source the location and the food for a one-of-a-kind experience.
If you’re needing a night complete with classic Bermudian tastes, look to the island’s robust roster of private chefs who will bring the island’s bounty to you. Up-and-coming chefs like Jaelan Steede is the man behind BermyEats who will cater a menu inspired by Caribbean-Mediterranean fusion and fresh local ingredients. Or spice up your group getaway with a bespoke cocktail experience with caterers, The Blind Pig.
The chefs will work with you to develop a unique menu perfect for an intimate dinner for two or large, extended families.
Taste something unique with the guest chef series at The Loren
Throughout the year, guests at The Loren can partake in a one-of-a-kind dining experience. Committed to what they call ‘seed-to-table and sea-to-table,’ The Loren’s head chef, Tim Sullivan, curates a menu that let’s the best of the island shine. Working directly with Bermudian fishermen and small farmers, many of the menu items are sourced and caught that morning.
The hotel continues their commitment to the island’s bounty this summer with a fresh twist. From July to September, some of the world’s most celebrated chefs will make their home at The Pink Beach Club. The rotating roster continues through September 24 and features chefs like Chef Saul Bolton, JJ Johnson, Dayanny De La Cruz, Nina Compton, and Ryan Hardy. Chefs will continue the hotel’s culinary commitments by building their menus off of the island’s best ingredients.
The series will support the hotel’s newly launched Loren Roots Initiative, which is dedicated to promoting reforestation, with plans to acquire over 50,000 biodiverse acres and plant 10 million trees in order to help the hotel achieve carbon negative status. The Initiative will partner with local school children through community initiatives in culinary education.
