New York City Ballet Fall Gala at the David H. Koch Theater

THE PARTY Manhattan’s favorite dance troupe launched into autumn with some extra star power thanks to Sir Paul McCartney, who composed the music to Ocean’s Kingdom, the company’s season opener at Lincoln Center, and all kinds of admirers—including Liv Tyler, Paul Simon and Candace Bushnell—came out to watch and listen. With the former Beatle’s daughter, Stella McCartney, on costume duty, there was nary a white tutu in sight. THE PLAYERS The happy meeting of pop and high art brought out a starry bunch: Alec Baldwin shared jokes with SNL capo Lorne Michaels; James Lipton and Jon Bon Jovi might have had less to talk about. Ralph Lauren came en famille, Steve Buscemi kept a low profile and Naomi Watts, Jessica Seinfeld and Sarah Jessica Parker bounded into the dinner tent together post-performance sans dates. “It was beautiful; it was exciting,” Parker concluded. RAISE A GLASS From the stage, Ballet Master in Chief Peter Martins toasted Sir Paul with a cup of tea. OVERHEARD “Sexiest ballet I’ve ever seen.” –Cynthia Rowley
