Another New Yorker has set their sights on south Florida.
According to NYC real estate news outlet The Real Deal, Brooklyn-born Billionaire Vincent Viola and his wife Theresa sold their sprawling four-floor Brooklyn Heights mansion for a record-breaking $25.5 million. At about $2,202 per square foot, the sale comes in at the most expensive ever for the borough, topping the previous record of $20.3 for a condo at Quay Towers.
Even more astounding is the profit. The Violas bought the unit for $8 million back in 2007. Built in 1875, the building was situated as a multi-family rental, though the Violas renovated it into a luxurious single-family home with a 250-square-foot roof deck. The home was bought by M8T, a Delaware-based limited partnership, represented by attorney Andrea Riina in a seemingly off-market deal.
Viola is the founder and Executive Chairment of Virtu Financial as well as the owner of the Florida Panthers hockey team. The firm recently announced a plan to open offices in Florida's Palm Beach Gardens neighborhoodand shrink its New York office footprint by 75 percent.
Viola, who was President Trump's first nominee for Secretary of the U.S. Army, also plans to sell the couple's property in the Upper East Side. It's currently on the market for $79 million. Read the full report via The Real Deal.
