Just a short drive from the city, these destinations offer the ideal scenes for a weekend rendezvous.
The Aurum
An Aurum bungalow
The Catskills are welcoming a new transformative hotel and hammam experience like no other. The Aurum, a 36-room hotel set on 131 acres in Mount Tremper, is the brainchild of Million Dollar Listing’s Steve Gold and interior designer Samuel Amoia, and is the co-developers’ first venture into the hospitality industry. Inside the main building will be the historic Maidstone Lodge, built in 1902 and more recently extensively renovated, and home to the lobby, guest rooms and a Sicilian farm-to-table restaurant. Influenced by ancient Rome and its impact on today’s society, the hotel will reimagine the bathing culture that was at the heart of the first social clubs in Rome. At the Aurum Thermae, the hammam and spa with Roman roots, guests will step back in time and unwind just as ancient leaders and philosophers did. For more privacy and exclusivity, 12 mountain bungalows starring incredible views and private gardens await. Mount Tremper
The Amelia Hotel
The Amelia is Hudson’s go-to for weekend trips.
The Amelia Hotel is a quaint, recently renovated 19th century Queen Anne-style house in the heart of Hudson. A blend of historical details of the home, such as the intricate woodwork and mahogany fireplace mantels in the library and common areas, with contemporary touches, such as minimalist furniture and eclectic pop art, including pieces by greats like Basquiat and Warhol, adorn the space. Featuring six guest rooms, two 1,000-square-foot suites, an outdoor fire pit and a pool surrounded by blooming f lowers, The Amelia offers a quiet, luxurious sanctuary to take a break away from the city, even if just for the weekend. 339 Allen St., Hudson
Shou Sugi Ban Inn
A Shou Sugi Ban Inn room
Shou Sugi Ban House, the Hamptons’ go-to wellness destination, opened a new oasis in Water Mill—Shou Sugi Ban Inn. Adjacent to the main Shou Sugi Ban House property, the intimate five-room (including three suites) bed-and-breakfast offers a private swimming pool and patio. Each dwelling boasts a gas fireplace, Frette linens, a soaking tub or shower and organic Japanese amenities. Guests of the inn also receive priority access to Shou Sugi Ban House’s spa and wellness offerings, including massages, hydrotherapy and more, as well as a daily signature breakfast from the plant-rich culinary program designed by Michelin-starred chef Mads Refslund. Shou Sugi Ban House also added two sumptuous stand-alone residences on the property between itself and the inn, where short-term rentals allow guests to unwind privately in the comfort of a home away from home. 337 Montauk Highway, Water Mill
