Luckily, streaming services have been hard at work releasing new series, seasons and movies to keep us entertained while homebound. Here's our list of must-watch new releases, available to stream on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, Disney+, YouTube TV and more.
Ozark (Season 3; Netflix) An action-packed first two seasons follows financial advisor Marty Byrde (Jason Bateman) as he's forced to relocate his family to the Ozarks after a money-laundering scheme gone. The once-traditional family is left with no choice but to navigate the dangerous turn of events, often leaving them face-to-face with perilous dealings. Finally—after what feels like an eternity—the show releases season three, and it's guaranteed to be another thrilling, heart-pounding ride.
Hollywood (Netflix; coming May 1) Set in Hollywood's Golden Era, this seven-episode Netflix original limited series follows aspiring actors as they try to make it in show biz—and they'll do just about anything to do so.
Outlander (season 5; Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime, YouTube TV) The adaption of Diana Gabaldon's best-selling novel follows Claire Randall, a WWII nurse, who finds herself fighting for her freedom and life when she's suddenly transported into a mysterious 1743 Scottland. What ensues is a passionate love story that has audiences across the world hooked and begging for more. Thankfully, season 5 is now available to binge on multiple streaming services.
The English Game (Netflix) Calling all history buffs, sports fanatics and Netflix devotees, this new historical sports drama tells the story of the invention of football and how the beloved game became the world's most popular sport by crossing class divides.
Sex Education (season 2; Netflix) Season two of the popular British comedy-drama released late January and it's just the comedic relief we need right now. Picking up right where we left off, follow Otis—a socially awkward teen and reluctant lovemaking expert thanks to his mother, a sex therapist—as he tries to navigate the confusing road of high school relationships and popularity.
Unorthodox (Netflix) Fleeing an unhappy arranged marriage, 19-year-old Esty moves to Berlin to lead an unorthodox life. As all things do, Esty’s past soon catches up with her in this loosely based retelling of the true story of Esty Shapiro.
Self Made (Netflix) Based on an inspiring true story, this feel-good limited series tells the moving life story of Madame C.J. Walker (played by the talented Octavia Spencer), a poverty-stricken washerwoman who built a beauty empire from the ground up and became America's first female self-made millionaire.
Dead to Me (Netflix; season two coming May 8) Grieving her husband's sudden death, Jen turns to a support group where she meets Judy, a tenderhearted artist who soon becomes a close friend. But there's just one problem, Judy's keeping a big secret. Season one kept us on our toes, providing equal parts drama and comedic relief and ending with a season finale that left viewers stunned, speechless and begging for more. Finally, season two arrives May 8, picking up right where the show left us—jaw-dropped and still dangling from that cliff hanger.
Little Fires Everywhere (Hulu) This buzzed-about new release based on 2017 best-seller by Celeste NG stars two insanely talented actresses, Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington—both of whom were executive producers on the show. Playing characters from very different socioeconomic backgrounds, the two mothers’ paths intertwine and what’s to come is a series of shocking discoveries exploring the weight of secrets, nature of identity and the merciless pull of motherhood. You won’t be able to look away.
Mrs. America (Hulu; Amazon Prime): This American drama miniseries follows the powerful political movement to ratify the Equal Rights Movement. Told through the lens of women of the era, the series portrays arguably the toughest battle of the 1970s culture wars. Watch as an all-star female cast—including Cate Blanchett, Rose Byrne and Elizabeth Banks—star as the inspiring women who fought endlessly for their rights and forever altered the political landscape.
High Fidelity (Hulu) The television adaptation of Nick Hornby’s novel follows Rob Brooks (played by Zoë Kravitz, Lenny Kravitz’s daughter), a Brooklyn-based record store owner obsessed with all things pop culture and Top Five Lists. Watch as the music fanatic uses her two passions to revisit past relationships while desperately trying to move on from her one true love in this reimagined rom-com series.
Tales from the Loop (Amazon Prime) Inspired by Simon Stalenhag's paintings, this mind-altering show follows enigmatic characters who live ‘above the loop,’ a machine built to unlock the hidden riddles of the universe.
Devs (Hulu, Amazon Prime) This science-fiction thriller keeps you on your toes as Lily Chan, a young software engineer at cutting-edge tech company Amaya, begins to investigate the apparent suicide of her boyfriend, only to discover that all clues lead to Amaya’s CEO and a truth that could be life-changing. With all eight episodes of the miniseries now available to stream, it's the perfect time to start watching—but be warned, you won't be able to look away.
Onward (Disney+) A feel-good flick for the whole family, Pixar's newest animated movie follows the magical tale of two teen Elf brothers on their quest to spend just one day with their late father. The moving adventure has audiences ages 5 to 90 hooked—and we can easily see why.
Upload (Amazon Prime; coming May 1) Based in 2033, the sci-fi comedy portrays a life where humans nearing death can be “uploaded” into a virtual reality and choose their own afterlife. Created by Greg Daniels—best known as the mastermind producer and writer behind The Office and Parks and Recreation—this new series is bound to be a hit.
Bosch (Amazon Prime; season 6) Detective Harry Bosch returns for another season of action-packed seasons filled with murder cases, a federal investigation, and a threat to L.A. that may be catastrophic to the detective's beloved city.
Breeders (Hulu; Amazon Prime; YouTube TV) FX’s new comedy series shares an honest and hilarious look at modern parenthood, exploring the paradox “You’d willingly die for your children, but quite often you want to kill them” as Paul (Martin Freeman) and Ally (Daisy Haggard) try desperately to juggle full-time careers, elderly parents, a mortgage and their young children. And trust us, if you’re a parent you’ll be laughing, crying and nodding in agreement as the cast comedically portrays the raw actualities of life.
Extraction (Netflix) Starring Chris Hemsworth, Netflix’s gritty new original film follows a gritty mercenary whose mission to rescue a drug lord’s son becomes a violent, soul-searching fight to survive.
