While there’s always an occasion to get dressed to the nines in the Big Apple, fall is a particularly busy time. With gala season in full swing, plus numerous events that require chic cocktail attire or glamorous black-tie evening wear, you’ll likely find yourself asking, What should I wear? Enter Nova Octo.
Launched in 2018 by Norwegian-born entrepreneur Silje Lübbe, who has worked in the fashion industry for more than a decade, Nova Octo is a next-level retail rental concept, where clients can rent luxury formalwear for a fraction of what they’d cost to own. Sure, you’ve heard horror stories about retail rental companies: the dress not arriving in time for the event, or showing serious signs of wear and tear, but fear not—Nova Octo offers clients a true luxury experience. Rental prices range from $200 up to $950 (with the exception of a one-of-a-kind Giambattista Valli Couture gown that retails at $35,000 and can be rented for $3,500).
Clients can visit Nova Octo’s website to browse the curated collection for the gorgeous gown of their choice. Just a few of the top-tier designers you might find include Oscar de la Renta, Tom Ford, and Dolce & Gabbana. If you’d prefer to see the apparel in person, stop by the Nova Octo showroom in Tribeca, where you can sip a glass of bubbly while you’re trying on a selection of couture gowns and dresses.
Plus, the company will donate 15 percent to charity for each rental (there are four partner charities you can choose from, including Girl Rising and Robin Hood).
In the year since it’s launched, Nova Octo has become an indispensable source for women who have a need for designer dresses but don’t want to be wasteful by only wearing it once after purchase. So whether you’re headed to your first black-tie event or you’re a fixture on the philanthropy and social circuit, by using Nova Octo, you’ll not only look fabulous by renting a stunning one-of-a-kind gown, you’ll also feel good while doing it.
