On Thursday September 24, the World Childhood Foundation USA (Childhood) hosted the "ThankYou Awards Gala" at The Plaza Hotel in the presence of Her Majesty Queen Silvia of Sweden, founder of the Foundation. Nearly 400 guests, including Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan, the First Lady of Rwanda Jeannette Kagame, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations Jan Eliasson, Uma Thurman, Forest Whitaker, global CEOs and NY business leaders, participated.
The gala raised over $800,000 for Childhood’s projects in the US and internationally which aim to prevent child abuse and exploitation. At the gala, the Foundation launched the "Childhood ThankYou Awards". The first awardees were Her Majesty Queen Rania of Jordan, Mrs. Marilyn Carlson Nelson of Carlson and the IKEA Foundation. The awards recognized their accomplishments in significantly furthering the cause of children’s rights worldwide. Additionally, Joanna Rubinstein, Childhood USA President and CEO, and Karini Gustafson-Teixeira, the co-director of the Thankyou by Childhood campaign, launched Princess Madeleine’s new campaign to prevent the sexual abuse and exploitation of children, #EyesWideOpen, at the gala.
